How do I use scales in the Moodle Gradebook?

Scales are a way to measure or evaluate students’ performance. Scales can be text (verbose scales) or numbers, which may or may not be symbolic of percentage ranges, to inform students, parents, administrators, or supervisors of student accomplishments.

Setting Scales to Grade an Activity

Either when creating a new activity or editing the settings of an activity follow these steps.

  1.  Under the Administration block,in the activity administration click Edit settings.

  2. Expand the Grade section and in the pull-down menu for Type, choose Scale.

  3. In the pull-down for Scale, select the specific scale that you want to use.Choose scale
  4. Select Save changes.

Grading a Student Activity

  1. In the activity you want to grade using a scale, use the pull-down menu to choose the grade for that assignment.Ratings
  2. Select Save changes.
